A herbalist, 48, has been apprehended for defrauding a 70-year-old woman to the tune of N500,000 by the Igando Police Division

The suspected herbalist identified as Akin Babalola while trying to vindicate himself of the alleged claims placed his index finger on the ground and touched his tongue before raising it into the sky, a symbol which signified that he is innocent.

Babalola who hails from Ogun State said, “The complainant came to my house and asked that I pre-pare a love potion for her to win back her husband.

“She told me that her husband abandoned her for another woman, thereby saddling her with the responsibility of bringing up their children alone.”

Trouble started when the complainant waited for the love potion she asked him to prepare for her in vain. The woman was said to have asked the herbalist to refund her money, but he refused and rather threatened to expose her for her evil intent.

The suspect was apprehended by the Igando Division after the woman reported the matter.

On why he did not deliver after being paid for his services, the suspect said “I do not want to incur God’s wrath because the love potion could lead to the man’s death.”

Babalola was charged to court by the Police on a three count charge bordering of felony, obtaining under false pretence and stealing. The suspect pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate M. Folami, however granted Babalola bail with the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum while the case was adjourned till May 18.
