Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has said that over 80 per cent of Nigerian stolen oil are exported to refineries in Europe , Asia and America , while the remaining 20 per cent is refined locally in illegal refineries which are now destroyed by security agents.
Uduaghan reportedly said this at the side-lines of the commissioning of Olorunshogo power station by President Goodluck Jonathan at Olorunshogo, Ogun state.
He said the Federal Government is working with the international community to track down the refineries where Nigerian crude is exported to.
He also explained that the government has reinforced security patrol in onshore, swamp and deepwater offshore locations where oil is produced with the aim of reducing the incidence of crude oil theft.
He urged Oil companies to install sensitive pipeline with sensors that will identify the source of pipeline breakage which is detected at the control room immediately.
Uduaghan who is also a board Member of Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDHPC ) identified gas supply as the major problem facing the power sector.
He said “Between 2011 and now, some of the power stations by NDPHC have started the generation of electricity, the main challenge is gas supply.
“There are two issues; one is the quantity of gas produced, secondly is the case of people who are stealing crude oil.
This sometimes affects gas supply , because the oil thieves don’t know the difference between gas and crude oil pipelines , this is big challenge we are fighting now.’’
