The much anticipated and publicised fight between world class boxers, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will finally come to fruition as both have agreed terms on a record-breaking fight, according to a new report.
The Sunday Telegraph reports that a “source close to Pacquiao” confirms that the Filipino boxer signed terms for the mega bout on Saturday, with Mayweather set to sign in the coming days.
It is understood the fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. May 2 is the most likely date, though the report adds that “there are two other dates on the table”.
“Manny has 100 per cent signed his side of the deal,” the source told Telegraph Sport. “It is now over to Mayweather to close the deal and announce the fight.”
Any announcement would bring an end to one of sport’s most protracted sagas which has rumbled on for half a decade after what the paper’s correspondent described as “years of haggling”.
The latest development comes in the same week Mayweather uploaded a short video to his Instagram account in which he told Pacquiao in person that they owed it to themselves, their careers and the world to make the fight happen.
With Pacquiao having made similar noises for some time, and saying openly that the money for the fight wasn’t an issue for him, there seemed to be no remaining obstacles to what is arguably the most eagerly-awaited clash in the sport since the Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield era.
Mayweather is reportedly to receive 60 per cent of the revenue to Pacquiao’s 40 per cent, while issues over the choice of 8-oz gloves and pre- and post-bout drug testing (which saw previous talks break down) have also been ironed out.
