Nine Nigerian nationals and a Cambodian woman who were accused and arrested for drug dealing were sentenced to five to eight years in prison and fined a total of 126 million riel ($30,663).
The verdict was reached by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday, September 12th.
The drug dealers had been using a Mountain of Fire church located in the Meanchey district of Phnom Penh as a base of operations.
Of the 10, nine were arrested on the 8th of January. They had been found to be in possession of nearly a kilogram of methamphetamine powder which was for sale.
the men caught were: Tony Chukwuonye, two brothers, Okorom Favour and Okorom Kizito Chinedu, Francis Nnamdi, Simon Maduka Ukandu,Sunday Nwabuisi, Nna Mezie Victor and Izuchukwu Chukwuma.
Their top dog Obieze Kenneth Uche, unfortunately, is still at large.
“The court is ordering the arrest of Obieze Kenneth Uche,” Judge Khy Chai said. “After the verdict comes into effect, all nine foreigners, after serving their jail terms, have to be deported out of Cambodia and prevented from entering Cambodia for the next five years.”
The woman who was caught with them, Morm Vonyong, initially said she had no idea that there were drugs in the boxes she delivered for them, but in the same hearing as the sentencing of the Nigerian men, admitted to delivering drugs to customers several times in exchange for $100.
