EIGHTY-two workers of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, were yesterday sacked by the management of the state-owned institution.
according to reports, the disengagement was in line with government’s policy to restructure tertiary institutions in the state.
It was also gathered that the affected workers were members of the non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the college.
Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of the college, Segun Onifade, confirmed the development to newsmen in Osogbo yesterday. According to him, the sacked workers were contract staff.
Onifade also disclosed that some of the sacked workers had spent six years before the authorities decided to relieve them of their jobs.
Chairman of the college’s Governing Council, Niyi Akande, when contacted on phone, however, said he was not aware of the sack.
He said: “I am not aware of that. I have not been told that anybody has been sacked. I am in Abuja.”
