Premier League leaders Chelsea are keen on retaining Coach Jose Mourinho for the next 10 years.
Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay revealed to the London Evening Standard he wants Jose Mourinho to “stay 10 years.”
Mourinho became the manager of Chelsea in June 2004, ‘The Special One’ as he is fondly called lead the Blues to the top of Premier League, he also won the League Cup and FA Community Shield in his reign which ended in September 2007.
He returned to Chelsea in 2013 signing a 4-year-contract.
Gourlay’s interest in extending the initial four-year contract signed by Mourinho was reportedly sparked by the impressive start Jose has made in this season’s EPL. He also believes securing the future of ‘the special one’ will bring an end to the high turnover of managers Chelsea has experienced in recent years.
He said: “I hope he will stay 10 years. Having the security of Jose is great for me – he knows the club, knows me. Jose can deal with the media in a different way from some of the other managers we’ve had. He takes the pressure not only away from the players but also from the club. He allows us to manage and me in particular to drive the club forward.”
