In line with the directive by the Presidency that 10,000 personnel be added to the police force, a massive recruitment drive was commenced.
When the portal opened, a total of 911,438 applied but over half of those fell off and the remaining 338,227 begin their screening next week.
The final stage of the recruitment will take place in Abuja in about six weeks time and 500 Cadet ASPs, 500 Cadet Inspectors, 1,500 Specialist Officers and 7,500 Constables, will be recruited.
The Chairman Police Service Commission (PSC), Mike Okoro spoke to the press as regards the screening exercise and revealed that the over 500,000 who failed did so for various reasons ranging from mismatch of certificate for declared vacancies, wrong choice of cadre, year of birth earlier than 1988 for ASPs/Inspectors, 1991 for constables and 1984 for specialists, all educational certificates other than FSLC obtained earlier than 2007, multiple applications among others.
He also disclosed that of the 300,000 plus that made the first cut 44,661 were for the Cadet ASPs position, 87,736 for Cadet Inspectors and 205,830 for Constables.
Screening will kick off on 6th June 2016 across the federation.
Then there will be another one at the 12 zonal commands before the final one in Abuja after which successful applicants would be selected for training.
