You can find a lot of articles on the Internet on how to recognize a toxic relationship, how to know if your partner is manipulative or codependent but there aren’t too many about what defines a happy, healthy and meaningful relationship. Here are 7 ways to know you are in the right relationship that you should consider:
1. YOU DON’T FEAR IT
One of the simplest ways to know you are in the right relationship is by realizing that you are not afraid of commitment. You feel lucky that you found someone who loves and understands you, who shares your values and who accepts you just as you are. All you want to do is spend more time in their company so you’ll get to do lots of fun things together.
2. YOU DON’T SNOOP
If you don’t feel the need to go through your significant other’s phone, email, Facebook account or even their journal, then you might be in the right relationship. This means that you completely trust your better half and that you know they wouldn’t do anything to hurt you.
3. THEY ALWAYS BRAG ABOUT YOU
If you get a good grade at school, if you get a big promotion at work or even if you win concert tickets in a radio contest, your partner would not be able to resist not sharing this news with everyone else around them. They are proud of you, no matter what you do. They really are your biggest fan and they don’t feel the need to hide this from you or from anyone else.
4. THEY MAKE SACRIFICES FOR YOU
You are in the right relationship when you know that your partner is making a lot of sacrifices just to be with you and you are happy to do the same for them. They’ll get a new job, move to a new city or even commute long distances just to be with you. You actually better your partner and they better you.
5. YOU MAINTAIN SELF-IDENTITY
When you are in the right relationship, you celebrate being you and your significant other does the same. You accept your differences, you appreciate each other more for maintaining your self-identity and you constantly try to improve yourselves. You share the same values as your partner and you don’t try to change each other.
