In an unexpected move, all the five deputy comptrollers-general of Customs (DCGs) yesterday resigned from service.
The affected DCGs, A.J Atte, T.A Musa, I.M Mera, A.C Nwosu and A.A Adewuyi, in a signed letter, said having attained the pinnacle of their careers, it was time to leave.
It was gathered that the decision of the senior officers to resign was not unconnected with the appointment of Col Hammed Ali, a retired Army officer and confidant of the president as Customs Comptroller-General.
However, in the letter DCG Adewuyi was observed not to have signed the joint resignation letter by the time of reporting this.
In a letter dated October 29, 2015, stamped and received by the office of the comptroller-general, the DCGs thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity to serve the nation.
The HERALD recalls that the former Customs comptroller-general, Dikko Inde, voluntarily resigned his appointment when he wrote a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the time had come for him to bow out for the younger ones to take over.
