According to a report released on Tuesday, more than 46 million people have Dementia worldwide.
The World Alzheimer Report, published by Alzheimer’s Disease International and King’s College London revealed that the number of people affected by dementia has increased quickly from the 35 million estimated in 2009.
Researchers warn that number could double in the next 20 years.
The report also added that 58% of all people with dementia reside in developing countries. By 2050, 68% of those with dementia will be located in low and middle income countries.
Dementia, also known as senility, is a broad category of brain diseases that cause a long term and often gradual decrease in the ability to think and remember such that a person’s daily functioning is affected.
