Four Philippine police officers were killed Tuesday in a shootout with one of the country’s most wanted criminals, who also died in the firefight, police said.
Three police officers were also wounded in the clash in the town of Lubuagan in the northern province of Kalinga, 345 km north of Manila, a police report said.
The officers were serving an arrest warrant against Willy Sagasag, who was wanted for multiple counts of murder, robbery and other crimes and carried a reward of 600,000 pesos (12,000 dollars) for his arrest.
But Sagasag and his men shot at the police officers, triggering the firefight, the report said.
The police said that Sagasag’s body was found after the shootout.(dpa/NAN)
