Four militants, including a Taliban local leader were on Tuesday killed in a clash in Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province, according to a local source.
According to Abdul Khalil-Khalili, the press officer of Afghan army acting on a tip-off, security forces laid an ambush to arrest militant’s local leader, Mohammad Omar and three of his subordinates in surrounding areas of Darqad district.
“The militants engaged the security forces, leading to the death of four of them, while two were arrested by security forces.
“The province has been the scene of clashes between Taliban militants and security forces for long,’’ Khalil-Khalili said.
Violence had escalated in the previously peaceful northern region over a past few years as Afghan security forces pushed against the militants in the southern and eastern regions.
However, the militant group was yet to comment on the report. (Xinhua/NAN)
