300 schoolgirls: “Nigeria now one day, one trouble” – Nigerians react to Zamfara abduction

3 Min Read

The abduction of ‘300 schoolgirls’ at Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State has set tongues wagging on social media.

In the early Friday attack, gunmen suspected to be bandits reportedly invaded the school in Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles and operated for several hours unchallenged before whisking the victims to an undisclosed location.

The Jangebe abduction came barely nine days after 27 students of Government Science College (GSC), Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State were abducted in their school.

They remain in captivity in spite of the Federal and state governments’ assurances to secure their release.

However, many Nigerians took to Facebook and Twitter to react to the latest incident.

Facebook comments monitored by this reporter…

Chidiogo Noah wrote, “Nigeria where kidnappers are celebrated. The government should keep on giving them incentives, the outcome is this!”

Gbonwei Tare wrote, “These guys don’t even need to press a laptop, they’re cashing out Yahoo money. Northern G Boys.”

Abiodun Adeoye wrote, This must not be true otherwise this government should bow out in shame.

“How can a senior Government official come openly on air to tell the world that kidnapping of school children by bandits in Nigeria is not abnormal because he believes it happens in advanced countries.

“Why didn’t he say that the so-called advanced countries don’t pay or negotiate with such bandits as is being done in Nigeria?

“Wicked leaders! He has encouraged bandits by that utterance.”

Efajemue Ralph wrote, “I smell a rat; there is a power broking syndicate behind this act. The Government should not claim ignorance.”

Efe Peter wrote, “Congratulations APC and Buhari; the next level is working. How can killer herdsmen, terrorists and bandits request the president of a country to see them for negotiation before they stop the rubbish they are doing?

“If the president and presidency does not know what is happening in the country, just imagine how innocent citizens and families are suffering in the hands of criminals, just because of bad governance and ‘I-don’t-care’ leaders.”

Nwiziogo Friday Nwife wrote, “Only bandits, Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram are enjoying in this country.

“They are into cool business with their northern sponsors. We the law-abiding citizens are only on social media making noise.”

Godwin Captain Kalu wrote, “This has now become a high paying business, because of a senseless government who romances with terrorists and bandits.”
