Three worshippers have died and 13 others injured in a road accident after attending the just-concluded Convention of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

It was learnt that the victims were passengers on a commercial bus that suffered a burst tyre and sommersaulted at Onipepeiye village, along Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu interchange in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The ill-fated Mazda bus with Registration number APP 297 YC was involved in the accident around 5: 22 pm on Sunday.

Confirming the incident, spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi blamed overspeeding.

He disclosed that 16 passengers, comprising five male adults and 11 female adults, were involved.

“Three persons comprised two male adults and one female adult lost their lives,” he said.

“According to an eyewitness account, who was also a passenger in the bus before the crash and the police investigation, the driver of the bus was on high speed and was cautioned by some of the passengers before one of the rear tyres bursted and the bus somersaulted, falling on its side.

“Further investigation confirmed that the bus was coming from Redeem Camp and passengers were among the congregation who partook in the just concluded 70th Convention tagged Perfect Jubilee.

“Three passengers, made up of two males and one female died in the unfortunate crash while 13 others made up of five male adults and 10 female adults were injured including the driver.”

The TRACE spokesman commserated with the families of the victims.

He also urged drivers to maintain their vehicles properly before embarking on long-distance journeys and avoid overspeeding.
