Three doctors have tested positive for novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos, Medical Guild, an umbrella body of doctors under the employment of the state government, has disclosed.

According to the guild, the incidents were recorded at the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

In a statement jointly signed by Chairman and Secretary, Dr. Oluwajimi Sodipo and Dr. Ismail Ajibowo respectively, the guild stated that the infected doctors were being treated at different isolation centres in the state.

Medical Guild said the infected doctors were in stable conditions.

Sodipo and Ajibowo added that doctors at Alimosho General Hospital, Ikorodu General Hospital, Lagos General Hospital and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) had been exposed to COVID-19 cases.

“Since the incident, we have been working with our representatives in those centres, and the Medical Directors of the facilities to ensure testing of those involved. “This is with a plan for care in the unfortunate incident of positive cases,” they said.

Also, the Medical Guild leaders said they would engage the state government to designate all doctors in the state as frontline workers and provide them with necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other incentives due to the risk they were exposed to.

In the same vein, they urged all doctors to endeavour to use necessary PPE to avoid being infected in the course of their work.
