Reports just coming in say that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have placed a former Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS), Col Lateef Kayode Are, under house arrest.
This is coming as the nation’s anti-graft agency continue to go after those suspected to have been in the loop in a $2.1 billion arms procurement deal for which former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd), is being tried.
According to various media reports, sporadic shooting was heard just outside the Lagos home of Are, which is located along Bourdillon road, Ikoyi.
Are was a military colonel in the Nigeria Army until he was retired by the regime of Gen. Sani Abacha.
He served as head of the DSS throughout the two terms of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and was replaced three months into the administration of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Other notable personalities that have been arrested or invited by the EFCC in the probe into the arms deal include Chairman emeritus of Daar Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi and former Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa.
