It seems that incidences of kidnap has gradually become the order of the day, it has begun to take a back seat to more commonly placed everyday stories, The Delta State Police common on Command on Thursday arrested two suspects Mr Kelvin Ovwie (25) and Mr Tadefe Egwolo (25) who were accused of kidnapping a 53 year old woman, Raping her and going ahead to demand 10 million Naira from the victim.
According to the Commanding Officer of 3rd Battalion Nigerian Army, Effurun, Lt Col. Ifeanyi, who briefed the press on Saturday, said the paraded suspects before journalists would soon be handed over to the police for prosecution.
The victim ,a grandmother of two (names un-disclosed) was abducted at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Roundabout on Tuesday by the young men, who dragged her to Room 602 of Casa De Perdro Hotel located at Effurun, where she was allegedly raped by Egwolo while snapshots of the act were taken by Ovwie.
According to the suspects, they admitted to carrying out the sexual abuse but insisted that they were not kidnappers.
The aim of the snapshots being taken during the act, according the woman who is a senior staff in PTI, was to blackmail her if she refused to pay the ransom demanded from her.
She said she reported the case to the troops and was asked to play along, and as the two boys came for the money at PTI Junction on Thursday in a Lexus car with registration number Delta EFR 02AA which belongs to one of the suspects, there they were rounded up by troops of Sector 1, Operation Pulo Shield, who had already laid ambush for them.
But Egwolo, during the parade, denied kidnapping the woman, insisting that she was his girlfriend for no less than a year and months, adding that things went awry between them when the woman refused to fulfill her own part of the bargain of N150, 000 per month as payment for Egwolo’s services.
The suspects would be investigated and charged to court.
