25 year old drug dealer escapes Malaysian jail for Thailand

2 Min Read

A Nigerian drug dealer, Osuji Kelly Prince, who has been said to have fled a detention facility in Malaysia since August 12, may be on the run to Thailand.

The drugs which was found in Osuji’s possession were believed to be worth about N439 million (RM9 million).

This is according to media reports which emanated from Malaysia yesterday.

Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief, Noor Rashid Ibrahim, revealed that he got wind of the information through his department’s intelligence network.

Osuji, a 25-year-old Prince was reportedly assisted by a 52-year-old corporal to escape from Jinjang Detention Centre, where he was held for drugs possession.

It is pertinent to note that under the Malaysian laws, drug trafficking/dealing is punished by the death penalty and on July 25, 2013, this was evident in the case of  a Nigerian student, Ugonna Philip Nwankwo who was sentenced to death by the Malaysian Shah Alam High Court.

Noor  said: “He had it planned all along and we are working with Thai police to trace him and have him deported to Malaysia,” he said.

Osuji, in possession 9 kilogrammes of methamphetamine also known as ‘syabu’ in Malaysia, was arrested by Malaysian authorities on August 1.

The 52-year-old corporal, who aided Osuji’s escape has, however, been charged in court for aiding Prince’s escape.

He also had pending disciplinary issues related to his work prior to the current case.
