About 241 Nigerians living in Libya on Tuesday arrived at the cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.

The returning Nigerians whose return was facilitated by the International Organisation for Migration, IOM, in collaboration with the Nigerian Embassy in Libya upon arrival were welcomed by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on behalf of the Federal Government

The IOM, NEMA and other relevant stakeholders welcomed the returnees who arrived at about 4:00pm in a Libyan airline with Reg 5A-LAR. Upon arrival, the returnees were screened by the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, officers before they were handed over to the NEMA officials present who provided them with food and transportation to their various locations.

Speaking on the return, the IOM Lagos office head, Dr Nahashon Thuo disclosed that the returnees were not deported from the country as their return was voluntary.

Giving a breakdown of the returnees, the Director Relief and Rehabilitation of NEMA, Alhaji Aliyu Baffale Sambo who represented the Director General, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi said a total of 67 females and 174 males made up the returnees. He further analysed that there were 6 under 18 girls and 3 under 18 boys included in the statistics with 3 of the children being less than 5 years of age.

He further revealed that a total of 6 medical cases were recorded and have since been transported to health facilities.
