The Plateau State Police Command alleges to have recovered about 1,097 arms and ammunition from criminals in the state. They report having seized 171 arms, 795 ammunition and 131 cartridges from the criminals.
The command also charged 24 alleged rapists and was investigating about 19 cases of rape between February 2018 and now. The suspects have also been charged to court for prosecution.
Undie Adie, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, announced this during a press conference where a parade of the suspected syndicate which specialised in stealing of cars, snatching of motorcycles and culpable homicide was being conducted.
“In compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to all state command commissioners of police to mop up illegal and prohibited firearms, the Plateau State Police Command promptly commenced the mop-up exercise which has so far yielded results.
“It is regrettable that the command is witnessing an increase in cases of rape on the Plateau. On January 30, 2018, the command paraded three young men who gang-raped a 14-year-old at Angwan Rogo area of Jos metropolis. They have been charged to court.”
Adie advised parents to give more attention to their female children “so that they don’t stray into the hands of criminally-minded young men.”
