Twenty two members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have signed an undertaking with the Police Command in order to enable them resume sessions at the House.

The move follows the ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja nullifying the take over of the State House by the National Assembly. The Court ruled the take over as unconstitutional paving the way for resumption of activities in the house.

However anti-Amaechi lawmakers were said to be plotting to utilize the decision in order to cause further chaos in the State, even as Hon. Evans Bipi is adamant on being recognized as the legitimate Speaker of the House.

Speaking during the signing of the undertaking at the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the genuine Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Otelemaba Dan-Amachree, said there was no faction in the State House of Assembly as he clearly controlled the majority. 22 Honourable members escorted him to the signing.

Amachree said, “You can see we are only 22 lawmakers present; we came to the state CID to honour the invitation of the police to sign an undertaking before sitting to commence at the Assembly, which we have just done.

“We were given a form to fill by the police to be of good conduct and behaviour.  We have assured the police that we are going to ensure peace and order during our deliberations, and I am sure the police is satisfied with our response…The remaining nine lawmakers will also come and sign the undertaking”.

He stressed: “There are no two Houses of Assembly in Rivers State, but only one led by me.  As you can see, we are only 22 lawmakers present here.

“We hope that the remaining nine lawmakers will come and join us to move the state forward in the interest of our people”.

A defiant Bipi speaking to journalists on the development via telephone said, “I am a law abiding citizen of this great country. I will also lead my people to sign the Police undertaking. After that we will sit.

“I promise my colleagues that I will not victimise anybody but we will all work together to move Rivers State forward. I will bring everybody together so that we all can chat a common course for our dear state”, he said.
