A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Zayanau Yusuf, 21, to three months’ imprisonment for stealing a tricycle tyre and battery, both valued at N26,000.
The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, convicted and sentenced Yusuf following his guilty plea and the facts of the case.
Maiwada, however, gave Yusuf an option of N10,000 fine, and ordered him to pay N12,000 as compensation to the complainant, Mr Rauy Mansoor.
He advised Yusuf to stay away from crime and be of good behaviour in his own interest.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, informed the court that Mansoor reported the case at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on Dec. 10.
Ukagha told the court that Yusuf stole the items from the complainant’s mechanic workshop at Airport Junction, in contravention of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
She said that the tyre worth N11, 000 and the battery, N15, 000.
Ukagha said that the tyre was recovered from Yusuf but efforts to recover the battery failed.
