The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Delta Chapter says it is putting modalities in place to ensure a credible, reliable, and hitch-free screening exercise ahead of the 2023 General Elections in the state.
The state Party Chairman, Mr Emeka Nkwoala, disclosed this to newsmen after the Party State Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, in Asaba.
He said that the party primaries in the state and the nation would be done in accordance with the newly amended electoral Act, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines to ensure a hitch-free process.
Nkwoala said that the party had commenced sales of forms for aspirants for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and the House of Assembly.
He described ZLP as people and gender-friendly, adding that youth, women, and persons living with disabilities got the nomination forms free.
The chairman said that though, sales of forms were still on, the party was open to credible, and popular individuals that could win elections both at the state and national levels.
According to him, the party was being driven by the commitment of members, who were determined to sustain the structure to ensure that the party was victorious during the 2023 General Elections.
“This meeting is a prelude to our upcoming activities in the state, for us as managers of the party to brainstorm and strategise on ways to deal with the numerous activities because time is of the essence.
“We have gotten the elections timetable for our primaries, and our forms are out and aspirants are buying, but the youths, women, and people with disabilities obtained the forms for free.
“In Delta, we have our governorship aspirants, Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly.
“We are already selling our forms, and it is gender-friendly, workers’ and peoples’ oriented, and not as expensive compared to that of other parties,” he said.

Nkwoala said that based on the timetable, the screening of aspirants of the party had been scheduled for May 18, for State House of Assembly while May 25, is for House of Representatives
According to him, May 25, is scheduled for the Senate, while May 28 for governorship aspirants and the Presidential comes up on June 1.
While expressing hope for free, fair, and credible elections, Nkwoala, lauded the National Assembly for the newly amended Electoral Act and President Muhammadu Buhari for signing it into law.
“My advice to my party members is that they must be committed because this newly signed electoral act will throw up popular candidates to win elections in Nigeria.
“It’s a legacy from this current administration, and we are happy about it,” Nkwoala said. (NAN)
