2023: Win or lose, I’ll stick with PDP – Reno Omokri

3 Min Read
Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former new media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has vowed not to decamp from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) even if the party fails to win the 2023 general election.

Omokri said this in a Facebook post on Sunday while responding to a follower who accused him of supporting the party for “selfish reasons”.

Reno Omokri comment

The 48-year-old Omokri is known to regularly respond to comments posted by his followers on his social media pages.

“Whether PDP wins or not in 2023, I will stick with the party,” he said.

The pastor-cum-politician noted that he has a well-documented history of loyalty to the PDP, which ruled Nigeria between 1999 and 2015.

He added that, unlike some politicians, his loyalty was not based on the party’s electoral fortunes or selfish interests.

Addressing the follower, Omokri wrote:

Dear King Max,

Thank you for your feedback. Sadly, sentiments had blinded many people. I went to Obasanjo’s house in 1998. I have been with the PDP since 1999. I worked at the Obasanjo villa from 2003-2005. I worked in the Jonathan villa from 2011-2015. I supported Atiku in 2019. So, when have you, Max, known me that I was not PDP?

You are there talking about “selfish interest”. In my entire life, I have only been affiliated with one political party, the PDP. In government and opposition, in good times and bad times, under the rain and in the sun, I have remained faithful to PDP, to the extent that former President Jonathan publicly described me as the definition of loyalty. Now, suddenly I am supporting PDP for selfish interests because I refused to leave the party with a man who only left the party three days to the Presidential primaries, when it was clear he would not win? You want me to support a party whose political philosophy is the polar opposite of everything I have believed in since I attained adulthood (free enterprise, deregulation, privatisation and a lean government).

Max, you do not know the meaning of selfish interest! Selfish interest is when I support a party and man I do not believe in only because I think he can win. Whether PDP wins or not in 2023, I will stick with the party.

Thank you again and may God bless you.
