Dr. Doyin Okupe, former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Jonathan, says that both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may perform poorly in 2023.
He predicted that though both parties were expected to play dominant roles in the election, “but certainly not in the formats that these two dominant parties are presently constituted.”
Explaining why the APC could perform poorly, Okupe stated, “Severe cleavage and deep cracks have already surfaced in the APC.
“It will get worse, principally driven by over-ambition, pursuant of self-interest, lack of deep thinking and mutual loss of respect for each other’s political, softness, capabilities, and capacities to do damage.
“Failure to subdue ego for common good, will also contribute immensely towards this impending internal implosion.”

Okupe added, “As for the PDP, it is presently all silent on the surface. But ultimately, rock-like rigidity in pursuant of ambitions, inexperience at very high levels, high levels of individualism, absence of team spirit, and failure to act quickly by those who ought to, will all lead to irrepressible cleavage which may make the party lose a vital winning political penalty in 2023.”
He explained that politicians would eventually seek accommodation on new and neutral grounds that will emerge.
According to him, major and perhaps unprecedented realignment of forces will take place, which may eventually carry the day in 2023.
