The battle for who sits on Nigeria’s Presidential throne has begun as campaign banners of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were spotted on the streets of Lagos.
The APC chairman is yet to declare his intention to run for the 2023 presidential race but this did not stop his supporters from flooding the streets of Lagos with his posters.
This is not the first time such campaign posters will emerge as banners of Oshiomole and Nasir El-Rufai were also spotted in Kaduna last month.
Buhari’s supporters may not be happy with these banners as they may feel the 2023 Presidential campaign is injurious to President Buhari who is barely 6 months into his second tenure.
There have been speculations in the past few weeks concerning power rotation. The North has said Power must remain in the North as it is capable of ruling Nigeria for the next 100 years, in a statement made by Ango Abdullahi, Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum.
Ango in an interview with Daily Sun said “There is nothing wrong at all if the North keeps power for century because democracy is all about numbers and we(North) have it”
However, Prof. Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Against Corruption (PACAC) has blasted the Northern Elder, calling him a retard who is incapable of making rational statements.
According to Itse who spoke to Newsmen from Daily Independent, he said although the agreement of power rotation between the north and South was unwritten, it has been the driving tool of peace in Nigeria for the past years. To sustain this peace, Power must be shifted back to the South on the completion of President Buhari’s second tenure.
“No rational mind will say things like that. Only an ethnic jingoist or a person who is mentally retarded and who does not have the interest of the country at heart will utter such a statement. That statement can only come from somebody who wants us to break apart”.
