The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has said that signing a peace accord ahead of the 2023 presidential election was an indication that Nigeria is at war.
He said this while reacting to the National Peace Committee (NPC)’s plan to make all presidential candidates sign a peace accord.
Former Head of State and Convener of the NPC, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) met members of the committee in Minna, Niger State on Thursday, September 22.
Emerging from the meeting, Abdulsalami said all candidates would sign the peace accord to signify their commitment to peace before, during, and after the elections.
According to him, politicians and their associates amplify the potential for personal attacks, insults, and incitement during electioneering which could jeopardise the country’s peaceful co-existence.

The signing of the peace accord kicks off on Thursday, September 29 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Reacting in an interview on Arise TV programme, ‘Morning Show’, Sowore said he would sign the peace accord to show he subscribed to a peaceful election.
However, he explained that the signing of the peace accord showed that the country is at war.
“I don’t know why we’re signing this peace accord when we are not at war. This signifies that Nigeria is at war. Elections are a war in this country.
“For the sake of symbolism of this, I will show up there, and sign whatever they want so that the people can understand that I subscribe to peace during the election and after the election,” Sowore said.
