Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN has urged the public to dismiss a rumour circulating that he intends to be running mate to former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2023 presidential election.

The minister’s rebuttal came through a statement signed by his media aide, Dr. Umar Gwandu on Monday.

He said Malami had not engaged in any discussion with anyone over the matter and has shown no interest in any political position.

The minister’s media aide added that Malami remained committed to discharging the responsibilities of his current position to the best of his ability.

“2023 is still very far to even talk about it. The attorney has never indicated interest to stand for election with anybody,” the statement read in part.

“What the minister needs now is to focus more on how to deliver the much-needed services to the country and that is what he has been doing and will continue to do.”

He urged the public to watch what they post on social media and anywhere else.

By circulating the rumour, he said, its purveyors were trying to force words into the minister’s mouth.

He advised such elements to stop peddling such unfounded rumours that have no basis whatsoever.
