2023: Lawyer reacts as Deji Adeyanju cautions activists, critics against endorsing presidential candidates

A lawyer, Abdul Mahmud, has tackled Convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju for advising activists and critics against openly endorsing any of the presidential candidates for the 2023 presidential race.

Adeyanju gave the piece of advice in a tweet the same day that leading 2023 presidential candidates graced the opening ceremony of the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos.

The Herald reports that PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and APC vice presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima’s participation in the NBA conference elicited various reactions.

Taking to Twitter, Adeyanju warned activists and critics thinking of endorsing any of the 2023 candidates to learn a lesson from their colleagues that endorsed then APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

He wrote, “Dear activists & critics, you must not support a presidential candidate, a politician or political party in the next election. Resist the blackmail and threats by the herds. You won’t die if you don’t support any candidate. Those who supported Buhari in 2015 are still regretting.”

Reacting in a tweet, Mahmud said as a “veteran” activist, he was within his democratic rights to endorse any candidate for the election.

He declared support for Peter Obi of Labour Party.

He wrote, “Dear Deji, I’m an activist, in fact a veteran, and I’m supporting Obi and the Labour Party. Same way I supported GEJ in 2011/2015 and Atiku in 2019 (PDP). It is my democratic right; activism or no activism!”
