A political commentator, Japheth Omojuwa, says vice-presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kashim Shettima is the most stereotyped candidate on a presidential ticket for the 2023 election.
Omojuwa said that Shettima is constantly being branded “Boko Haram” or “scary” for no other reason than being from Borno State.
According to him, critics of the APC presidential running mate do not give any consideration to his content or character.
Omojuwa said this in a tweet on Friday.
A photo of Shettima supposedly dining with Boko Haram terrorists has made the rounds over the years.
A fact check by Daily Trust in July 2022 stated that there was no sufficient evidence to back the claim that the Senator was dining with Boko Haram members as depicted in the viral photo.
A former aide to the Senator, I. A Ningi, had equally explained that the photo was taken when Shettima had a meeting with some nomadic (Mbororo) Fulani parents in Borno.
Despite the denials, Shettima has continued to be linked with the growth of the Boko Haram terror group.
Speaking about the links, Omojuwa said, “Kashim Shettima is the most stereotyped candidate on a presidential ticket this term.
“His photo goes with variations of “I don’t know what scares me about this man” & “Boko Haram” for being or doing nothing other than being from Borno.
“The man’s content or character don’t matter.”
