Nigerian singer Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has shared insights into why 2023 has been a quieter year for him musically, emphasizing the importance of growth and stepping back from the frenzy.
Having enjoyed a remarkable global run in 2021 and 2022, particularly with his hit song ‘Peru’ and a remix featuring British superstar Ed Sheeran, Fireboy explained that 2023 is a year focused on personal and artistic development.
In a recent interview with Wat And Ers, Fireboy expressed gratitude for the learning and growth he has experienced both as an individual and an artist throughout the year.
“2023 has been a year of learning and growth for me as a person and as an artist. I’m just really grateful for the journey. When people say be grateful for the journey, I think this year has been that year for me,” he stated.
The singer emphasized the importance of recognizing his humanity amidst the demands of his career, stating, “Sometimes, it’s okay to step out from being an artiste and just realize that you’re human as well. With an actual life, with real problems just like everybody else. And this year has really taught me to appreciate all those things.”
Fireboy acknowledged that the previous year barely left him with enough time for his personal life. However, 2023, being comparatively quieter, has allowed him more quality time with family in Lagos, Nigeria.
Reflecting on the impact of his hit song ‘Peru,’ Fireboy mentioned that while it changed his life and took him to various places, the current year serves as a necessary period for artists to grow and step back from the chaos, focusing on enjoying and appreciating life for what it truly is.
