2023 campaign: We won’t join those calling Dino Melaye ‘stupid’ – Keyamo

Keyamo

Official spokesperson of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo says the All Progressives Congress (APC) will run an issue-based campaign for the 2023 presidential election.

He said this in a tweet on Saturday while responding to a comment by his counterpart on the PDP presidential campaign team, Senator Dino Melaye.

In an appearance on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ on Friday, Melaye mocked Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s social media following.

He added that social media frenzy over a candidate would not necessarily translate to votes.

He stated that the 2003 presidential campaign of late human rights lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi generated a similar frenzy on Facebook but he only got 1,400 votes.

“Gani Fawehinmi once ran for the president of this country. Facebook went agog, at the end of the day, he got 1,400 votes,” Melaye said.

A fact check by The Cable has invalidated Melaye’s claim, and Keyamo reacted to the claim in a tweet.

Keyamo, who is a protégé of Gani Fawehinmi, wrote, “We’ll run a clean campaign. We’ll not use abusive words on our opponents & their spokespersons.

“We’ll refrain from calling those who Nigerians think & say they look stupid with their gaffs as such.

“Abuses on a campaign trail are a sign of frustration. We will stick to the issues.”
