2019’s 12 Months of Cinematographic Goodness: Movies to watch out for in 2019

8 Min Read

With movies like the Black Panther, Infinity Wars, Gringo, Crazy Rich Asians and Aquaman, 2018 was indeed a good year.

However, 2019 is the Messiah we have all been waiting for- film-wise, of course.

Numerous trailers telling of movies that promise to have us glued to our screens are all testament to the fact that 2019 is going to be a cinematographically fulfilling year.

Without further ado, Ladies and gentlemen, we give you 2019’s 12 months of cinematographic goodness.

January

2019 Movie List

In the beginning, there was “Glass.” M. Night Shyamalan promises to excite us with “Glass”, a sequel to his previous movies, “Unbreakable” and “Split”. With Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and James McAvoy playing the roles of disturbed characters with heightened powers, January 18 promises to be fun and action-packed.

February

2019 Movie List

The 8th day of the month of love will bring us “Lego Movie 2” four years after its prequel. Emmet (Chris Pratt) will return alongside an impressive cast featuring Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Charlie Dya and Tiffany Haddish.

March

2019 Movie List

Eight is indeed a lucky number as Marvel unveils a new character in a marvel-ous new movie aptly named, “Captain Marvel.” In this 90’s set adventure, Oscar winner, Brie Larson is an air force pilot with superpowers.

2019 Movie List

March 29th brings us Disney’s first live action movie, “Dumbo”, a story about a lovable circus elephant with ginormous ears and flying abilities. We really hope Tim Burton does justice to this heartwarming story line.

April

2019 Movie List

As we await winter and hope that HBO, just like Lannisters, will pay their debt to us, DC’s “Shazam” will serve as an appetizer.

The April 5th movie stars Zachary Levi as the central superhero- and no, his superpowers have nothing to do with identifying random songs.

But wait! There’s more to come!

2019 Movie List

April 5th will be a day of double blessings as we welcome ‘Pet Sematary”, a chilling remake of Stephen King’s horror classic about a family who discover some horrifying secrets in the backyard of their new New England house.

2019 Movie List

April will also bring us the beginning of the much anticipated 8th season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Winter is here and replete with a million unanswered questions:

•Are two dragons enough to take down the Night King, his dragon and army of blue-eyed undeads?

•What will be the fate of Jon snow, Daenerys Targaeyen and the rest of the Westerosi?

Find out this April!

2019 Movie List

April will round off on a charged note as Marvel presents an epic finale to the battle between Marvel’s biggest superheroes and Thanos, their greatest foe. Thinking about how glorious the April 26th battle will be has us off our seats with anticipation.

May

2019 Movie List

May brings good tidings with “Pokémon Detective”. The anime monster, Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds), is going to feature in the live-action comedy that will air on May 10th.

2019 Movie List

May 24th brings us Disney’s second live-action movie, “Aladdin”. The movie directed by Guy Ritchie will feature Will Smith as the Genie of the Lamp. Will the Fresh Prince deliver this role impeccably? Only time will tell.

2019 Movie List

May will end in a full-on kajiu war as “Godzilla: King of Monsters” premieres on May 31st. Alongside the monsters is a rich cast that features Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler and Ken Watanabe.

June

2019 Movie List

Pixar isn’t left out of the fun, guys. Come 21st June, we will be having yet another out-of-box adventure with Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of Andy’s toys in Toystory 4.

July

2019 Movie List

Marvel is definitely on a roll! July 5 will see the debut of the 3rd Marvel movie for the year, “Spiderman: Far From Home.” We are beside ourselves with joy that the imperfect but endearing main character survived Thanos’s attacks just to give us his own movie.

2019 Movie List

Finally, the moment we have all been waiting for: July 19th.

On this remarkable day, we journey through the verdant plains of the pride lands, grow and share Simba’s experiences in Jon Favreau’s live-action movie, “The Lion King”. This is the 3rd and final installation of the triplet live-action movies Disney has for us this year. With a cast that includes Donald Glover as Simba, Queen Bey as Nala and James Earl Jones as Mufasa, you can see why we are impatient for July to come.

August

2019 Movie List

The 8th month will bring some very fast august visitors as “Hobbs and Shaw”, a spin-off of “Fast and Furious” hits cinemas on August 2.

In addition to the now familiar characters played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham, the fast-paced movie will welcome Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby to its cast.

September

2019 Movie List

We will start September with a scare as “It: Chapter Two” hits the cinemas by September 6th. Some clowns are all fun and games but Pennywise is definitely not one of them. In this sequel, directed also by Andy Muschietti, the shape shifting entity has some unfinished business to settle with the now grown up characters from the first part of the movie.

October

2019 Movie List

Halloween season will start with another Joker movie as “Joker” premieres on October 4.

But this time around, there is a twist!

Director Todd Philips gives us an up, close and personal origin story to the ever-smiling maniacal main character played by Joaquin Phoenix.

November

2019 Movie List

It will definitely be a November to remember as Frozen 2 premieres on the 22nd. Yup! They couldn’t “let it go” at just one movie. Our expectations: more music, more colorful characters and as always, a happy ending.

December

2019 Movie List

We will end the year with the final installment of the Skywalker saga that boasts a cast that comprises star actors Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher and more. The as-yet-untitled “Episode IX” will hit cinemas on December 20th, 2019. We cannot think of a better way to usher in the festive period than with a little saber action!
