The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to defeat at the 2019 election the seven All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday to urge him to seek re-election.
The party made this known in a series of tweets on its official Twitter handle on Saturday.
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Solomon Lalong (Plateau), Abubakar Bello (Niger), Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe) and Jibrilla Bindow (Adamawa) held a two-hour closed-door meeting with the president after observing Juma’at prayers with him at the Presidential Villa.
After the meeting, the governors said they had come to urge the president to seek a fresh mandate in 2019.
Like Buhari, six of the governors are in their first terms, with Geidam of Yobe the only one in his second term in office.
In the tweet, PDP described the visit as a self-serving move by the governors to get a second term.
The party said a “looming disgrace” awaited the governors in the 2019 election.
