2019: IBB Champions Youths As Siasia Visits

2 Min Read
Babangida

Former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has called on the older generation to leave politics and governance for the younger generation to have the chance of moving the nation forward.

He said this on Sunday when representatives of a new political platform, the New Nigeria led by its leader, Moses Siloko Siasia, visited him in his residence in Minna, Niger State.

IBB stated that he and some other prominent personalities had proposed in 1989 that the older generation should leave governance for the younger generation, who have fresh ideas and the energy to implement them, but some of the older generation failed to buy into the idea.

He added that throughout history younger men and women have proven to be better able to bring development to a nation because of their adventurous nature.

Babangida cited the example of another former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) who at 31 fought to keep Nigeria as one and embarked on many developmental strides that are still visible today, after many decades.

He said,  “Some of us assumed leadership at a very young age. The older generation must give way for the new one. We have become analogue but this is a digital age; so the young people should be supported to use their digital knowledge to move the country forward.”

IBB lauded the Not Too Young To Run movement and vowed to support it until its ideals become a reality.
