The National President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to make way for younger persons to lead Nigeria after he promised to sign the “Not Too Young To Run” Bill into law.
According to The Punch, Shettima was reacting to Buhari’s Democracy Day Speech where he promised to sign the bill lowering the age at which individuals can seek election into key positions in the nation.
Buhari said, “In few days to come, I will be joined by many promising young Nigerians to sign into law the ‘Not Too Young to Run’ Bill.”
But in his reaction, Shettima said, “There is nothing extraordinary about what he (Buhari) said. I am not keen about it. Nigerians will decide when the time comes. There is nothing interesting about it.
“There is nothing different from what we said. The younger generation must be given the opportunity to govern this country. That’s all. It is one thing to say, it is another thing for him to implement. It has always been so. So, I have not seen anything new.”
