A cleric, Ven. Davidson Udodi, has urged religious leaders and traditional rulers to lead the fight against corruption to rescue the country from eminent economic doom caused by corruption.

“If we don’t kill corruption, corruption will definite kill us,’’ Udodi, who is the Archdeacon of Akwunanaw Archdeaconry, Anglican Diocese of Enugu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

According to him, religious leaders and traditional rulers must take the driver’s seat to check corrupt practices in their places of worship, domains and among their subjects.

“All hands must be on deck for us to do away with corruption and stop the negative economic downturn it brings to everybody in the country,’’ he said.

Udodi urged wealthy Nigerians to establish industries, instead of stashing monies abroad, in view of high rate of unemployment and idleness, especially among the youths.

He appealed to members of the National Assembly to expedite action on the passage of the 2018 Appropriation Bill for it early implementation in order to make the needed impact on the people.

Udodi, who is in-charge of St. Matthews Anglican Church, Amechi Akwunanaw, also called on the political class to be more humane and execute projects that would make impact on the lives of the people.

“The political and leadership class must do more to alleviate the sufferings of common people; they should ensure that wealth is redistributed for the benefit of all,’’ he said.

The cleric urged them to think of the greatness of this country in 2018 and not their individual greatness.

“Greatness of the country will lead to the greatness of every individual Nigerian within and outside in the country,’’ he said.

The cleric, however, thanked God for seen Nigerians through 2017 to 2018; saying: “We are not better than those that had been called home by God’’.

“I believe that 2018 will be far better than 2017, and Nigerians will have course to smile through what our Great God will do to the economy in 2018,’’ he added. (NAN)
