Cameroon’s Issa Nlareb on Friday shot to the top of the leader board at the end of first round of the 2017 FCT Classic at the IBB International Golf and Country Club,Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the FCT Classic which teed-off on Friday is the 2017 West Africa Golf Tour (WAGT) season opener. It is expected to end on Sunday.
Nlareb was quick out of the blocks birdying his first hole followed by birdies on the fifth and seventh holes.
But he had one blemish on the sixth where he dropped a stroke and turned on 2 under par 34.
Nlareb again started his back nine with a birdie on the tenth but faltered on the eleventh and twelfth dropping a stroke at each hole.
However, he immediately struck back with a birdie at thirteen and followed with another birdie at sixteen to shoot one under par for the back nine.
The Cameroonian ended with a gross 69 (3 under par).
NAN also reports that professional golfers from Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Zimbabwe are taking part in the three-day event.
The tournament marks the first anniversary of the tour which was launched in Feb. 2016, in Abuja.
The prize money for the FCT Classic is 25,000 dollars. (NAN)
