Emissaries of President Goodluck Jonathan are making moves to woo Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi to support the President ahead of the 2015 elections.
Reports state that part of the deal involves Amaechi staying in the All Progressives Congress whilst supporting the President’s second term bid. In return the Federal Government is said to allow Amaechi choose his successor in government house.
The Federal Government is reportedly soft pedaling on areas where it had kept a more hard line stance regarding Amaechi before.
For instance, the Ministry of Aviation has allegedly released Rivers State Government jet which was detained for alleged illegal entry into the country last year. The Rivers Government is said to only have to pay an N11 million fine.
In addition the Federal Government is releasing two security helicopters purchased by the Governor for security operations in the state.
Sources say the PDP is in strategic need of the votes from Rivers State which is said to have produced 2 million votes for PDP since the days of Peter Odili.
