Dr. Junaid Mohammed, the convener of the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and has faulted the statement made last week by Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, that the Peoples Democratic Party would win the 2015 elections.
Mohammed said Governor Aliyu was in no position to make such a declaration and was not speaking on behalf of the people of the North or even the people of Niger State for that matter.
Mohammed said, “Making the prediction now that the PDP will win election in 2015, in my view, is wrong.”
“Babangida Aliyu was not speaking for anybody in the entire North. He has no authority or permit to speak the way he did. It should be clear that Aliyu was not even speaking for the people of Niger State,”, he added.
He said Aliyu had no political clout to speak for Northerners and that his position as Norther Governors Forum chairman was not an elected position. He said further evidence pointed to the fact that the PDP under Aliyu’s watch could only win one of the three Senatorial Districts in the State as the Congress for Progressive Change (now All Progressives Congress) captured the remaining two.
“Whether PDP retains Niger or another party takes over, whether somebody from the North or South, becomes the President on the platform of the PDP or any other party, he —Babangida Aliyu — will cease to be of any relevance post-May 29, 2015,” Mohammed concluded.
