The 20 best SS3 students in the 2012/2013 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from Oyo State, on Wednesday, departed for the United Kingdom for a 10-day leadership training programme.
The leadership training is being organised by the wife of the governor of Ogun State, Olufunso Amosun, in partnership with The Buckwood School, Hastings in the United Kingdom, as a reward for hard work for the 20 students from the public secondary schools in the 20 local government areas of the state. This, she said, is also to motivate others to face their studies in order to put in their best in their academic endeavours.
Speaking last year during the unveiling of the 20 best SS3 students in 2012/2013 WASSCE at the Progress Hall, South-West Resource Centre, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state First Lady assured that for the second year running, she would be taking the best students abroad for leadership training programme in the first quarter of 2014 “as a reward for their excellent performance in the last WAEC.”
She said education was at the forefront of the agenda of the present administration in the state and that the present government places higher premium on the welfare of children and youths, adding that the leadership training was to serve as a motivation for students to study hard in order to improve in their studies.
She urged the students to work towards possessing good leadership qualities, encouraging them not to let her down and to leave the door open for other students to benefit in the programme in 2014 and beyond.
