Two women were on Wednesday charged to an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly conspiring to give false information to the police to pervert the course of justice.
The accused — Adeyemi Mary, 30, a trader of No. 7, Daniel Makhinde St., Ketu and Eferusuoa Helen, 32, a nurse of No. 16B, Church St., Mile 12 in Lagos, are both facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempt to prevent justice and assault on police officer.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 25 at Ketu Police Station.
He said on Feb. 25 the complainant, Ajayi Tunde, a technician of No. 7, Daniel Makhinde St., Ketu, came to the station to report the case.
“He reported that Mary, his former wife, who he did not marry but lived with him for five years was threatening his life with pregnancy.
“The complainant also reported that for sometime Mary had been trying to extort money from him.
“That on Feb.14, a doctor had called him to tell him that Mary was in his hospital and that she had malaria … He said he should come and deposit some money but he refused.
“Later that same day, he said Mary had called him to say that she had been delivered of a baby boy.
“He was shocked and called the doctor back who then told him that his wife had left the hospital since and that she did not deliver any baby there,” Lucky said.
The prosecutor said that the complainant then asked her about the baby and she claimed he had died.
Ihiehie said that Mary claimed the complainant owed her N500, 000 which he denied.
“During Interrogation, the second accused having tendered her statement that she helped Mary deliver at her house but out of fear confessed to the police that Mary was never pregnant.”
The two women pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs Sule Amzat, granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each who must be gainfully employed.
The case was adjourned to March 30 for continuation of trial. (NAN)
