Two men, Suleiman Idi and Abdullahi Musa, on Wednesday appeared in a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two cartons of peak milk.
Idi, a security man, and Abdullahi Musa, a trader of Daki biyu, Abuja, were arraigned for burgling a warehouse in their custody.
Prosecutor John Ijagbemi told the court that Alfa Musiu of Jabi, a trader who deals with provisions, reported the matter at the Wuse Police Station on March 20.
Ijagbemi said that the complainant rented a warehouse and hired Idi as his security to guard the goods for safekeeping.
He said that on March 14, the complainant travelled outside Abuja and when he returned on March 19, he found that the warehouse had been burgled.
The prosecutor said that the complainant suspected the defendants might have committed the crime and thereafter he reported to the police for his arrest.
“Upon his arrest, the defendant admitted to the offence and mentioned Musa as his accomplice.
“The defendant also stated that that they broke into the warehouse and made away with two cartons of peak milk,’’ he said.
Ijagbemi said when Musa heard that Idi had been arrested, he went into hiding but he was later arrested.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Fatima Bukar, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each and a surety each in like sum.
Bukar said that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and adjourned the case till April 21.
