Two men, who allegedly broke into an estate in Lagos and stole property worth thousands of naira, on Tuesday appeared in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court.

The accused – 18-year-old Essene Daniel, a tailor, and 21-year-old Ozor Mike, a dancer, – both live in Gbagada area of Lagos and are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, housebreaking and stealing.

Essene lives at 19, Zainab St., Medina Estate, Ifako, while Ozor resides at 6, Ibrahim Olabunka St., also in Ifako.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky told the court that the accused with others still at large committed the offences on March 6 at No. 17, Zainab St., Medina Estate, Ifako, Gbagada.

He said the complainant, Mr Ngyal Eura, a civil servant, came to Ifako Police Station to report that his house was burgled.

“The complainant reported that when he returned from church with his family at noon, he discovered that all the doors in his house had been damaged.

“A cash of N4, 000 was stolen and a Samsung Galaxy tab, an LG phone, two Infinix phones and a still camera valued at N100, 000 were also stolen.

“All the rooms were ransacked and the complainant believed that the accused scaled the fence to gain entry,” he said.

According to him, the complainants’ security man disappeared after the incident.

The offences contravened Sections 285, 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 308 also provides three years for housebreaking.

Section 308 prescribes another three years for conspiracy.

The duo pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs Sule Amzat, in her ruling, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

The case has been adjourned to March 17 for trial. (NAN)
