2 labourers in court over alleged N3.5m aluminum profile theft

Two labourers: Abiodun Afeez and Femi Oyegbade, who allegedly stole their employer’s aluminum profiles, worth N3.59 million, were on Wednesday docked at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Afeez, 30, and Oyegbade, 24, both residents of  Agege area of Lagos, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offence with some persons at large on November 11, 2018, at No. 5, Olorunlogbo St., Aluminum village Dopemu in Lagos state.

Eruada said that the duo, charged with the responsibility off loading aluminum profiles, conspired to steal the products, valued at N3.59 million, from where they off loaded and kept in the warehouse.

The prosecutor also said the items belonged to the complainant, Mr Emeka Ikebeotu.

“The complainant suspected their action after they finished loading the aluminum into the warehouse.

“They were arrested by the police after the complainant reported the matter at a police station, where they confessed that they had sold the items,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The two accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, admitted the two accused to a N250, 000 bail in the like sum,each with two sureties.

Dan-Oni said that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified.

The magistrate adjourned the case until March 6, for mention. (NAN)
