2 In Court Over Alleged Rape, Burglary In Osun

Oluwaseyi Jubrila, 23, and Adelusi Michael, 21, were on Thursday arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged rape of a 23-year-old woman and stealing.

Police prosecutor, Insp Glory Ona told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 18, 2020 around 4:30 am at No 2, Alubata Street, Modakeke-Ife.

Ona said that Adelusi Michael, 21, and Oluwaseyi Junrila, 23, conspired together to wit: stealing, but it was Junrila that committed the rape.

He added that the defendants also burgled the dwelling house of one Adenike Adedeji, Damilola Adekanmi and Akinola Kehinde to steal the some items.

According to him, the item stolen were: one Itel P32 phone; one Itel A32F phone, one Samsung A50 phone, one Toshiba Laptop, one pair of Eye Glasses and raw cash of N500.

He gave the total value of the items as N203,500.

Ona stated further that the offences contravened sections 383, 357, 390 (9), 411 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Junrila pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge of rape, conspiracy, stealing and burglary while Adelusi pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and burglary.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Samson Adegoke, applied for the bail of the defendants in most liberal term, pledged that his clients would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate Joseph Owolawi granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Owolawi added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and one of the sureties must be a civil servant.

He stated further that the sureties must provide three recent passport photographs each.

The case was adjourned until June 4, for hearing.
