Two persons were feared dead when a petrol tanker caught fire while offloading product at AA Rano Filling Station near the Grand Central Hotel in Kano metropolis on Wednesday.

Eye witnesses told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the fire which started around 2 p.m. had also destroyed a building adjacent to the filling station.

According to the witnesses, no fewer than five cars and property worth millions of Naira were also destroyed by the inferno.

They said the incident occurred when the driver and one other person were trying to offload fuel in the dumps.

The witnesses said it was the quick intervention of private companies who brought their fire fighting vehicles that prevented the fire from razing down the entire filling station.

It was gathered that many people who were on queue to buy fuel, however, escaped unhurt.

When contacted, the Director of the state Fire Service, Alhaji Mustapha Rulwan, confirmed the incident.

Rulwan, however, denied knowledge about the number of death, saying only one person was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“I cannot confirm to you whether there was death or not, but I know one person who sustained injury was rushed to the hospital,” he said.

According to the director, five cars were destroyed by the inferno
