2 businessmen docked for allegedly cheating customer of N46,000

Two businessmen, Ezeji Obi, 40, and Ugwu Shedrach, 27, on Thursday appeared before a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, for allegedly cheating customer of N46,000.

The accused, both of Sharp Corner, Mararaba, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, cheating and breach of contract to which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, told the court that Ocjette Emmanuel of Kuchikau, Nasarawa State, lodged a complaint at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Station on April 4.

Adaji alleged that sometimes in January, the complainant bought an LG Plasma TV valued at N46,000 from the defendants and later found out that the television was faulty.

He said that the complainant returned the television to them and they promised to refund his money or give him another one, but they failed to do so.

Adaji said that on March 3, the complainant reported the matter at Calvary Road Police Station and the defendants were arrested.

He said the accused wrote an undertaking to return the complainant’s money, but they failed to do so.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 97, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Mr Albert Maga, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety each in like sum.

He said that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must tender two recent passport photographs or National Identity Card or driver licence.

Maga adjourned the case till April 20 for further hearing. (NAN)
