Two brothers, Femi Adegboyega and Ibukun Adegboyega, drowned while swimming at the Ibeshe Beach in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State on Christmas day.
It was learnt that Femi, 26, and Ibukun, 23, lived in the Festac area of the state.
They were said to have gone to the beach with their friends on Christmas day when the incident occurred around 6 pm.
An eyewitness identified simply as Seun disclosed that they were all swimming together when the incident occurred, noting that the circumstances surrounding their drowning were vague.
Another witness, Femi, said that rescuers put in enormous effort but were unable to rescue the victims alive or recover their bodies.
“All efforts by his friends and local divers to rescue them from Ibeshe Beach did not work. The divers searched the beach but their bodies have not been found.
“We swam for a long time but to no avail. I strongly believe their bodies will be found soon. We informed the police about it quickly before the situation escalated. I pray their bodies will be found. I pray everything works well,” The Punch quoted him as saying.
Confirming the incident, Lagos police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said, “Divers have been employed to locate the bodies and the family of the deceased are already informed and the investigation is ongoing.”
