Two men caught by a local vigilante in Delta State for allegedly engaging in acts of homosexuality have incurred heavy fines after being handed over to the town’s native doctor.
The suspects identified as Monday Ehikwe and Godwin Chukwueku Okwuoseh, said to be the first suspect’s nephew, were reportedly caught in a building having carnal knowledge of each other.
When they were apprehended, they were handed over to the spiritual leader of the district of Agbor-Alidinma who promptly handed over to the Chief priest of the community for spiritual cleansing.
As part of the requirements for the cleansing, they were ordered to pay a fine of N25,000, a native cow, 36 native chalks, 50 kola nuts two pieces of red cloths each and 20 tubers of yam.
Homosexuality is punishable by Section 214 of the Criminal Code and attracts up to 14 years imprisonment.
